It is the musical home of a jazz legend and Howard University alum, Mr. James “Jimmy” Burrell. He has resided here with his family for approximately 60 years. Working in the DC Public Schools System as a music teacher for over 30 years, he became an adored mentor and even a father-figure for many of his students and the children in his community. His school bands were known for putting on the best shows and students would even skip their other classes to be in his class which was usually full of excitement, laughter, and the latest hits.Mr. Burrell has worked and toured with many great legends including Billy Stewart (Summertime), Patti Labelle (Somebody Loves You), Roberta Flack (Killing Me Softly), and the icon herself, Tina Turner (Proud Mary). He has been featured at many local jazz clubs and has even been on the news for his amazing talent on the piano. And now…his piano can be yours, as it is included with the sale of his home!Here, in this peaceful and well-loved home, he continues to make beautiful music with his musician friends that the neighbors always tune in to and always look forward to. He is well loved and respected here and will be missed from the community. The home also has a fig tree in the back yard that produces as much as 3-5 boxes of figs, which Mr. Burrell usually shares with his family, friends, and neighbors.
